Course Title: Music - Compose and Arrange
Subject: Music
Age Range: Years 8 - 10
Course Date: 08/02/2010 - 12/02/2010
Course Details
The aim of this course is to give participants experience in composing music within a wide range of contexts, assisting each student to develop their own particular strengths by a mutual exchange of ideas and experience. The course will look at writing music for both instruments and voice (vocal work can also include work on writing lyrics), and there will be opportunities to work within a variety of styles, and to explore new ideas and techniques.
Besides Paul and Tim, there will be other tutors on hand during the week, to guide and inspire, to discuss both specific techniques and potential pitfalls when writing for particular instruments, and, perhaps, to help in the performance of pieces written by the students.
Instrumentalists should bring their own instruments and, if necessary, amplification, whenever possible, though note that students do not have to be instrumentalists or singers themselves - the course is for any students who have demonstrated a particular aptitude and interest in musical activities and who would benefit from the opportunity to focus specifically on a range of composition activities. Keyboard players need to bring their own keyboards; there are only two pianos at Kilve Court, which all the students will share.
