Course Title: PE
Subject: PE
Age Range: Years 4 - 5
Course Date: 04/06/2010 - 06/06/2010
Course Details
‘Extending Able Children through Outdoor Adventurous Activities’
We are once again offering a very different type of PE course this year. Rather than using more traditional, school-based PE activities, we will focus on adventurous activities and how children can use these to extend and challenge themselves.
Course Dates: Friday 4 June (commencing at noon) - Sunday 6 June 2010 (finishing at 5.30 pm).
The PE course for Years 4 & 5 will be aimed at children who have an aptitude for PE in general. All activities used will be on-site at Kilve Court and include climbing, archery, abseiling and low ropes. Children will be encouraged to extend themselves through a progressive half-day programme for each activity and will have an opportunity to for fun, whole group activities in the evening.
Each activity will be suitable for children who have little or no knowledge of the activity, or for those who have some limited experience. However, those who already have extensive experience of an activity may find the course covering topics they are already aware of and possibly therefore not appropriate.
During the course we will also look to develop children’s personal and social skills in a supportive, residential environment, to help improve their confidence in dealing with others.
By the end of the course children will have improved their knowledge, skills and understanding of:
1. A range of challenging but extremely rewarding outdoor adventurous activities.
2. Facing and overcoming personal and group challenges in potentially hazardous situations using safe, secure systems and equipment.
3. How to work well with others, using the principles of successful teamwork.
4. The importance of different/alternative forms of exercise for a healthy lifestyle.
