All three Centres (Kilve Court, The Outdoor Centre and Great Wood) are very popular and usually heavily booked. However, to check availability, please contact our central office and staff will be happy to discuss any options we have.


 Kilve Court

  • Kilve Court is a Georgian Country House with modern extensions, situated in 40 Acres of wooded grounds and gardens, at the foot of the Quantock Hills and one mile from the sea.
  • The Centre is part of Somerset County Council’s Children and Young People’s Services Directorate.
  • A 24 hour CCTV system is in place, with cameras covering the grounds and inside the building.
  • Bedroom areas are fitted with electronic Keypads to provide restricted access.
  • Accommodation for up to 90 in rooms comprising 2, 3, 4, 6, or 7 beds.  Showers and toilets are organised for each group of bedrooms.
  • Three main meals per day with a wide choice of menu are provided.
  • Staff accommodation is in single or twin rooms with TV and tea/coffee making facilities - some rooms en suite.

 The Outdoor Centre

  • In the grounds of Kilve Court and part of Somerset County Council’s Children and Young People’s Services Directorate.
  • Accommodation for up to 70 children and 6 staff in cabins. Children’s cabins have 5 beds in each.
  • Cabins are fitted with an internal light, an external light controlled by a photocell, a fan heater, a security call button, a double 13 amp socket, key pad door locks, 10 luggage compartments with luggage containers, hanging space for coats etc. Externally, a small patio is set in front of the cabins with a seat on one side and an external waterproof box for boots and other outdoor equipment on the other.
  • The central meeting area is Quantock Hall, containing the kitchen, dining room, and work areas. Outside is a large patio area with tables and benches.
  • Three main meals per day with a wide choice of menu are provided.
  • Washrooms, showers and toilets, all with heating and lighting for males and females. Separate staff washrooms and toilets.
  • Large drying room.

 Great Wood

  • Part of Somerset County Council’s Children and Young People’s Services Directorate.
  • Accommodation available for up to 70 children and 14 staff in is provided in 8 en-suite cabins.
  • Separate staff lounge/meeting room.
  • Large dining/common room.
  • Three main meals per day with a wide choice of menu are provided.
  • A good-sized and recently refurbished Field Study Base/Classroom/Recreation Room.
  • Drying room.
  • 4 acres (1½ hectares) of grounds, including an outdoor swimming pool, campfire area, a volleyball court and a short tennis court. Additional games equipment is available. A stream borders one side of the site and is a very popular venue at all times, particularly with the younger children!
